ESPN is a sports network that is nearly unrivaled. It’s competition in broadcasting sports news and other sources of sports include NBC Sports, Fox Sports, etc. These companies are substantially quieter due to the fact that sports are not their main media outlet. Although these companies display high profile events and games on their channels, they do not compare to ESPN in the likes of sports news, highlights, and sports publicity. ESPN runs 24/7 showing sports and only sports in every possible way.
In 1996 ESPN was bought by Disney making them open to more avenues of viewing. Nowadays, anyone can stream ESPN through Disney Plus. This not only gives ESPN a leg up on these other sub tier sports channels, but also nearly makes them irrelevant. With 115 million viewers per month and the next closest being 10 million per month by NBC Sports that also hosts the Olympics every 4 years. This should show that even though the competition contains many national sports events ESPN still reigns over all other sports media outlets.
